Tinsel Friday

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

GuestLine Tennessee is sponsoring TINSEL FRIDAY at The Museum Center at 5ive Points, Friday, November 28th from 11 - 4.  Owner, Tracy O'Connell, said the idea came when she was getting ideas of what to do while family was in town for the holiday weekend.  "We always do something together - with my mom & all our brothers & sisters, spouses & grandkids, we end up being quite an entourage."

So she asked the Museum if they would be willing to try something different on a day that is traditionally known as "Black Friday" in the retail world.  O'Connell has been Membership Coordinator for the Museum Center for the past year.

Tinsel Friday suddenly became a family affair.  The entire "Cousin Crew" (all Almeda Miles grandchildren - ages 4 to 21) volunteered to man the event along with museum staff.  From handmade Christmas crafts, hot chocolate and coffee, to homemade Chocolate Chip cookies (our family's secret recipe), the CC will be helping on every front.  "The grandkids have been helping make these cookies since they were big enough to sit on the counter and stir.  Friday they'll get to take turns helping back in the museum's catering kitchen turning out fresh warm cookies all day."

Perry's Petals is co-sponsoring the Family Friday.  Jo Perry and her staff will be tinseling up the museum this week with fresh pine rope and bows to get it ready for the event.

"We are calling it "Tinsel Friday" because we want to get folks in the holiday spirit.  We hope to offer families a fun outing to kick off the Holidays," says O'Connell.  Lots of new merchandise from the museum's recent Holiday Open House is now available for Christmas gifts and ideas, according O'Connell.

"One of my favorite heirlooms to bring out during Christmas each year is the hand made wreath that one my kids made when they were little.  It's just a little paper wreath, nothing expensive, but they made it themselves, when their little hands were so small.  Each year I hang it on the door - first thing - right when I get the Christmas decorations out!" said O'Connell.  Christmas "Paw-Print Wreaths" will be one of several crafts available for kids to make during Tinsel Friday.  All craft making and tasty treats will be free of charge, as will be all tours of the museum all day.
